Principles are binding truths, propositions and standards that do not change. Principles do not change or lose their critical authority or significance regardless of the people, location, date or crisis.

Principles are like facts and truths. They are stubborn and don't go away, even when they are inconvenient or unpopular. Researching the principles behind our convictions compel all of us to examine what we believe and why we believe it. American politics, and society in general, tends to adopt narratives that make us feel insightful, vindicated or perhaps virtuous. Often, we are so attached to the narrative, we don't allow facts, statistics or principles to get in the way. Ignoring facts or principles in any narrative must not be allowed in the hearts and minds of informed and discerning citizens.

America is not a democracy. It is a Democratic Republic that absolutely requires a knowledgeable and engaged citizenry. Apathetic and uniformed citizens get the leaders and policies they deserve.
