The evidence is beginning to pile up and point to some very specific conclusions as more and more American and European EV drivers are reporting their experiences. The Climate Crisis agenda and its entire progressive “religion” is the driver behind the EV mandates. ESG* influences have forced normally sensible auto manufacturers to pursue goals and methods they would never have considered just 20 years ago because they were not cost effective, necessary, nor were they desired by their stockholders and customer base. Joe Biden’s “climate czar” John Kerry, says the poor reception EV’s are getting worldwide is the result of high levels of disinformation. However, Bloomberg Television journalist Jonathan Ferro responded saying, “What we are seeing is actually a reality check. Hertz just got rid of over 20,000 EV’s from its fleet. They’re expensive, don’t perform as advertised, and people simply don’t want them.”
EV’s don’t do what they are advertised to do
They are considerably more expensive than comparable Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles
The EV power demand requires additional electricity be generated (coal, natural gas, nuclear) just as before - when people were driving gas/diesel powered cars in the first place (nothing “green” happening here)
The infrastructure to support their operation by the public is far from adequate
The process to manufacture and then dispose of used batteries, is more eco-unfriendly and inefficient than the present procedures EV’s are meant to replace
Charging stations are not readily available to drivers as they travel
The cost for electric charging on the road is more costly than buying gas/diesel at a conventional service station
The distances drivers get from a full charge are less than a comparable full tank of gas/diesel and are even lower in colder temperatures
Many auto rental companies dumped their EV’s returning to normal ICE vehicles
Bottom line – this whole new technology is nowhere near ready for “prime time”
This is not to say there is no place in the American or world automobile market for EV’s. In fact, in many situations, they may be a very reasonable option for certain families or businesses. The problem has been the political “full court press” to establish EV’s as the only option for America’s future. Legislation promoting EV buyer tax incentives, regulating and limiting the market options for ICE vehicles, creating barriers for oil and gas exploration, production and distribution have been preferred strategies of progressive elites, the media and the liberal Democrat agenda.
When government forces attempt to artificially manipulate the course and dynamics of a free market, history has shown these efforts to be unsustainable and often catastrophic.
* ESG Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance
Politically driven values and priorities mandated to American corporations,
universities, local governments, foundations, and other US organizations with
assurances they will benefit from preferential Federal tax incentives, policies
and legislation.
ESG mandates compel these entities to include climate policies, waste
disposal, energy use, pollution, conservation, social/lifestyle issues and the
treatment of animals in all their decision making processes. Granted, these
are not all bad aspects to consider. The problem lies in the fact that the
regulation of these subjective priorities and policies falls under the jurisdiction
and enforcement of the SEC. We have seen governmental consequences for
those who do not “fall in line” with these mandates imposed before.
(e.g., LGBTQ rights, energy industry, hiring, immigration policies)
ESG directives require such organizations to pursue political agendas rather than trying to deliver the best returns for their customers, stockholders and communities – their real job. EV’s are just one facet of this government’s agenda and the tip of the iceberg. This is not how a free economy in a free country should do business.
PRINCIPLES -
Government manipulation corrupts the free market
Special Interests and fraudulent science agendas must not be endorsed with government incentives or retaliation
Ideally, industry answers to customers and investors, not politicians
The value of an informed and engaged citizenry
The critical role of an unbiased media
